Is the show shot in a real trailer park?
|
Answer
The first 4 seasons of Trailer Park Boys were filmed in a different, real life trailer park each year. Season 5 and everything after that have been filmed in a special, secure location that has been created to look like a trailer park, to allow for the increasingly complex scenes in the later episodes, which are difficult to film in a real residential area.
However, the majority of the crew lives there so it could technically be called “real”.

Do all of Bubbles’ kitties really belong to the actor who plays him?
|
Answer
No, although one of Mike Smith’s cats has appeared on the show, most of Bubbles’ kitties come from local animal shelters, the people who work on the show find good new homes for them once their acting careers finish each season.
Trailer Park Boys: The Movie employed a few specially trained cats from out of the area as well.

How do you go about shooting scenes with guns firing? Is it dangerous?
|
Answer
Trailer Park Boys employs licensed firearm specialists to coordinate, supervise, maintain and handle all weapons that are used on the show. All the guns you see are modified to fire only blanks (makes a loud noise, but no bullets), although they are always treated as if they were real guns. Safety is always the priority on set, ear and eye protection is provided to on set personnel and the police are always notified ahead of time when gunfire is scheduled on set.

Isn’t it dangerous to throw bottles at the actors? The bottle kid scenes are pretty hardcore.
|
Answer
All of the bottle kid scenes are performed with specially made prop bottles, nobody is ever hit with real glass. The prop glass is extremely fragile and is designed to shatter with minimal impact. Although it isn’t painful, it still takes a great deal of skill not to flinch when a fake bottle is flying at your head!

What ever happened to Bubbles’ mountain lion, Steve?
|
Answer
After freeing himself from his weed addiction, Steve became much more interested in female mountain lions and decided to settle down. He has no fixed address anymore and all of his fan mail is returned to sender.
|
 |
What’s the best way to courier someone weed?
|
Answer
Hey! That’s highly illegal! We would NEVER recommend that you pack it in ground coffee, seal it in a couple layers of plastic wrap, label it an unsolicited gift, and put a fake return address on it.
We would also never condone packing hash (or pre-rolled joints) into the spine of a CD jewel case, behind the label.

How can I roll a 6 paper joint like the ones Ricky makes?
|
Answer
When you get to the point where you NEED to roll a 6 paper joint, you will probably have a pretty good idea of how to go about doing it. Basically, you’ll need a lot of practice, both rolling AND smoking, before it’s a good idea to start experimenting with 6 paper joints, period.

I’m not from the Halifax-Dartmouth area, what the $#?% is a donair?
|
Answer
Donairs exist in other places as well, but they aren’t as good as the ones you can get in the Halifax Regional Municipality, and they are not made the same way. A donair is a delicious pita wrap filled with shaved, spit-roasted, spicy meat; topped with tomatoes, onions, and a sweet sauce.
Donairs outside the HRM usually use tahini instead of sweet sauce, but this is NOT a true donair. Donairs are a cultural fixture as part of the Halifax nightlife, widely regarded as the proper finale to a wild night out. If you have never been to Halifax then you probably have never eaten a real donair.

Trailer Park Boys: The Movie looks a bit different than the series. How come?
|
Answer
One of the reasons is that different types of cameras were used to shoot the movie.
Trailer Park Boys the series has been shot on digital videotape since season 1, which, combined with a great deal of hand held photography, gives the show a very realistic, documentary-style appearance.
The movie was shot not on videotape, but on 16mm motion picture film. Film reacts differently to light, and produces a more striking, vibrant image. The movie also used some hand held photography, but on the big screen extreme shakiness can be visually disturbing to the audience, so that technique was utilized to a lesser degree.
Another reason is that the series often uses long scenes without multiple rapid cuts. Videotape is well suited to this style, as it will produce a viewable picture in a variety of lighting conditions without a lot of adjustment.
Motion picture film is more sensitive to changes in light intensity, and therefore it requires a lot of adjustments to be able to change the position of the camera and to properly light different parts of the set.
If you are still reading this, you’re probably more interested in cameras than the producers of trailer park boys.
